Shane Lashley, MBA

Director, Lifestyle Medicine Programs

Shane is responsible for the development and implementation of WMA’s nutrition and lifestyle medicine programs. He is also responsible for oversight of WMA clinic operations for locations outside Austin, Texas.

Shane’s path to the health profession was a circuitous route. Two decades of serving as business consultant to C-Suite leaders in the USA and abroad on matters of creating shareholder value during treacherous hypergrowth, and later adding intellectual property monetization as a specialty, led to a season in Shane’s life of repeated and serious health events. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital twice, told by multiple doctors to lose weight, change his diet, lower his stress, etc. – or die sooner than later.

Shane did none of it.

Shane found the components of health restoration to be overwhelming, too confusing, too difficult, and too disruptive to his then life-structure.

The “ignore it and it will go away” approach did not work, and matters reached a tipping point where Shane’s repeated negotiations with his body were over. Only meaningful change would suffice, or as one physician put it, “You need to make a change or make a will. You pick.”

After losing 80 pounds, turning his health around by every measure, Shane came to appreciate the level of need in the community for people to have practical plans that were comprehensive enough to change their health status and yet simple enough to follow. He realized people also needed support because he had come to understand how much the mindset and a team approach to one’s health and self-care is crucial to success.

Shane developed a service specifically for people like himself and went on to appear on every major radio network in the USA as a subject-matter expert in nutrition and lifestyle transformation. He developed a concierge lifestyle medicine consulting practice to serve both physicians and patients and expanded throughout Texas which led to many opportunities to collaborate with Dr. Womack on specific patient assignments.

On January 1, 2020, Shane officially joined the Westlake Medical Arts team as Director of Lifestyle Medicine Programs. Shane is not a physician and does not diagnose or treat disease. He is currently completing an advanced fellowship and board certification as a Health Practitioner in Metabolic and Functional Medicine through the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. He is simultaneously completing requirements to be board certified in advanced medical nutrition therapy through the Board of Certified Nutrition Specialists, and he is completing a Masters of Science In Health Sciences in Integrative Medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Shane is trained in Dr. Dale Bredesen’s groundbreaking RECODE/REVERSE program and Advanced Clinical Training in the Reversal of Cognitive Decline. He is also trained in Dr. Daniel Amen’s Brain Health Coaching Program. In addition to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, Shane has special training and experience in working with patients suffering from toxic exposures, including CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome), children with autism, and addiction recovery at all ages.

Shane earned his MBA and a Masters of Management degree in Corporate Finance at the University of Dallas Graduate School of Management.

Shane has offices in all WMA locations and meets with patients in Austin, Plano, Arlington, Midland, and The Woodlands regularly.
